Craps
Bet on the roll of two dice.
How to play
- Each round starts with a come-out roll. On the Pass Line, 7 or 11 wins and 2, 3 or 12 loses. Any other number becomes the point.
- Once there is a point, the dice keep rolling. The Pass Line wins if the point comes again before a 7, and loses if a 7 comes first.
- Don't Pass is the opposite bet. On the come-out it wins on 2 or 3, loses on 7 or 11, and comes back on 12. After that it wins when a 7 comes before the point.
- After a point is set, you can add an Odds bet behind the Pass Line. It pays the true odds: 2 to 1 on 4 or 10, 3 to 2 on 5 or 9, and 6 to 5 on 6 or 8.
- The Field is a one-roll bet that wins on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. It pays double on 2 and triple on 12.
Odds
The Pass Line has a house edge of 1.41%, and Don't Pass 1.36%.
The Odds bet has no house edge at all, because it pays exactly the true odds.
The Field costs 2.78%, and Any Seven costs 16.67%.
The bets in the middle of the table, such as the hardways and Any Craps, cost between 9.09% and 16.67%.
| Bet | Pays | House edge |
|---|---|---|
| Pass Line | 1 to 1 | 1.41% |
| Don't Pass | 1 to 1 | 1.36% |
| Odds | 2 : 1 · 3 : 2 · 6 : 5 | 0.00% |
| Field | 1 : 1 · 2 ×2 · 12 ×3 | 2.78% |
| Any Seven | 4 to 1 | 16.67% |
The house edge is the share of every bet that the casino keeps over time. With a 2% edge you lose 2 of every 100 you bet on average over a long run. Any single session can still go either way.
Best play
- Bet the Pass Line or Don't Pass, then add the largest Odds bet the table allows.
- Keep away from the bets in the middle of the table. They pay well but have the highest house edges.
- Dice have no memory. A number that has not come for a while is not due.
